Soil Ph and Its Role in Cyanobacterial Abundance and Diversity in Rice Field Soils
نویسنده
چکیده
The influence of soil pH was evaluated on the abundance and generic diversity of cyanobacteria in soil samples collected from diverse rice soil ecologies of India. Qualitative and quantitative studies of the 52 soil samples collected from nine agroecologies was carried out using enrichment, MPN (Most Probable Number) techniques and diversity indices were measured. A total of 166 forms, including 130 heterocystous and 36 non-heterocystous isolates were isolated and the highest percentage of abundance of heterocystous forms was observed at pH of 8.1. Highest Shannon’s diversity index was recorded at a pH of 6.9, followed by pH of 7.4, while indices of richness and evenness (J and E) were highest in soil samples of pH of 9.3. This study highlighted the successful colonization of cyanobacteria in rice field soils of diverse pH and the need for enrichment of the native flora as a means of exploiting the full potential of cyanobacterial biofertilizers in agriculture

Molecular characterization and the effect of salinity on cyanobacterial diversity in the rice fields of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, India
BACKGROUND Salinity is known to affect almost half of the world's irrigated lands, especially rice fields. Furthermore, cyanobacteria, one of the critical inhabitants of rice fields have been characterized at molecular level from many different geographical locations. This study, for the first time, has examined the molecular diversity of cyanobacteria inhabiting Indian rice fields which experi...
متن کاملResponse of Bacteria Community to Long-Term Inorganic Nitrogen Application in Mulberry Field Soil
The bacterial community and diversity in mulberry field soils with different application ages of inorganic nitrogen fertilizer (4Y, 4-year-old; 17Y, 17-year-old; 32Y, 32-year- old) were investigated using next-generation sequencing. The results demonstrated that the application ages of nitrogen fertilizer significantly altered soil bacterial community and diversity. Soil bacterial Shannon diver...
متن کاملAmmonia-Oxidizing Archaea Show More Distinct Biogeographic Distribution Patterns than Ammonia-Oxidizing Bacteria across the Black Soil Zone of Northeast China
Black soils (Mollisols) of northeast China are highly productive and agriculturally important for food production. Ammonia-oxidizing microbes play an important role in N cycling in the black soils. However, the information related to the composition and distribution of ammonia-oxidizing microbes in the black soils has not yet been addressed. In this study, we used the amoA gene to quantify the ...
متن کاملpH dominates variation in tropical soil archaeal diversity and community structure.
Little is known of the factors influencing soil archaeal community diversity and composition in the tropics. We sampled soils across a range of forest and nonforest environments in the equatorial tropics of Malaysia, covering a wide range of pH values. DNA was PCR-amplified for the V1-V3 region of the 16S rRNA gene, and 454-pyrosequenced. Soil pH was the best predictor of diversity and communit...
متن کاملComparison of pedogenic properties of some paddy and nonpaddy soils of southern Iran
ABSTRACT- Paddy soils make up the largest anthropogenic wetlands on earth. Present study was performed to investigate and compare soil formation of paddy soils with long-term rice cultivation history with non-paddy soils and study the effect of waterlogging on soil pedogenesis. Soil samples were taken from paddy and non-paddy soils derived from the same calcareous parent materials. Some pedogen...
